April is second chance month: recognizing barriers and sharing resources for job seekers with a criminal record

Roughly 1 in 3 working adults have a criminal record, which can be an arrest record, criminal charges or a conviction. A criminal record creates barriers to jobs, occupational licensing, housing and higher education opportunities.

Governor Walz has proclaimed April as second chance month to raise awareness about barriers faced by people with a criminal record and create opportunities for second chances.

CareerForce offers assistance to job seekers with a criminal record in multiple ways. Here are a few resources we're highlighting today:

More Beds Now Available at Eden Prairie Men’s Residential.

We’re expanding! NorthStar Regional is increasing bed availability at our Eden Prairie Residential facility to meet the growing demand for high-intensity, co-occurring addiction treatment. This expansion allows more individuals to access live-in care for substance use, mental health, and behavioral health challenges in a supportive, structured environment.

Our Residential program includes individual and group therapy, educational lectures, meditation, recreational therapy, and 12-step support groups—all within gender-specific housing and with 24/7 staff support. Clients benefit from a holistic approach that treats the whole person—substance use, mental health, and medical needs.
