Model Jails Grant Opportunity

New funding for project supporting children of incarcerated parents

A new grant opportunity is available to implement strategies to support children of incarcerated parents. The grant has two tracks:

  • Model Jail Practices to support Children of Incarcerated Parents: Eligible applicants include county or tribal jails, or a county or tribal entity that is authorized to apply on behalf of the jail facility.
  • Programs and Supports for Children of Incarcerated Parents: Eligible applicants include county government, tribal governments, or other community-based non-profit in corresponding areas to the jail participants.

Participants in this program would become a part of the Minnesota Model Jail Practices Learning Community.

The overall goals of the Minnesota Model Jail Practices Learning community are to:

  • Establish a statewide network of jails to enhance and scale model jail practices that strengthen families until these practices become standard statewide.
  • Increase the quantity and quality of parent-child interactions during and after incarceration among children and families impacted by incarceration.
  • Improve the social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of children and youth with an incarcerated parent.
