Do you care for a child with an incarcerated parent, or know someone who does?
Help us spread the word! The Caregiver Council is a monthly support group for caregivers of youth affected by a parent’s incarceration. This group is open to men and women.
Next meeting
Saturday, May 6 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. at the Blaisdell YMCA (3335 Blaisdell Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55408).
Great Perks
We recognize that transportation is expensive. Caregivers who attend this month's Council will receive a $50 gas card (one per family, to be mailed after the Council.)
Free childcare
Kids 6 and older will have the chance to do arts and mindfulness activities with the Creative Kuponya team. Kids five and younger will be cared for by two dedicated YMCA staff members.
Special Speakers
This month will feature a presentation from Amanda Harrington from Be@School. She will be discussing how to keep kids engaged with school, preventing truancy, and how families can advocate themselves with school staff. “Navigating schools can be tough. It can be even more complicated when families experience changes at home. I will talk about how to work with school staff, how to advocate for yourself and your student, and how to get help from the county if you need it. Erick Castellanos, Outreach Coordinator for Great MN Schools Home - Great MN Schools, will also join me."
RSVP
If you’d like to attend this month's Caregiver Counsel, reply to this email or email outreach@cicmn.org. If you're bringing a child/children, let us know their names and birthdays.
