The Minnesota Certification Board is pleased to announce the addition of the Forensic Endorsement option to the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Reciprocal (CPRSR) credential.
The new Forensic Endorsement is available beginning on December 12th, 2022. Candidates may complete their application on this date and will be able to select the forensic endorsement as an option.
The following is a summary of key points about the forensic endorsement:
Eligibility: Candidates with the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Reciprocal (CPRSR) certification may choose to complete the Forensic Endorsement training of a minimum of 21 hours in the 7 domains required for this endorsement. Candidates applying for the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Reciprocal (CPRSR) Forensic Endorsement must submit a certificate of completed training along with their complete application located on the MCB website www.mcboard.org.
State based endorsement. This endorsement is for individuals certified in Minnesota and not transferable to other jurisdictions.
Verification of Lived Experience. All candidates applying for the CPRS and CPRSR Forensic Endorsement will be required to verify that they have a personal lived experience related to criminal justice system or incarceration.
Cost: Through funding from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the cost of applying for the forensic endorsement is $0. This is a limited time cost reduction while funds are available. The cost of applying for forensic endorsement will be $50 initially with a renewal every 2 years of $50.
Format: There is no exam or testing for the Forensic Endorsement.
Content: The Forensic Endorsement training content needs to be preapproved by MCB. The training for the forensic endorsement consists of a minimum of 21 hours in the 7 domains listed on the MCB website.
The Minnesota Certification Board has listed a summary of requirements for forensic endorsement renewal provided below.
Continuing Education for Forensic Endorsement. MCB requires 6 hours of continuing education necessary during each two-year period. This will help to keep certified peer recovery specialists with the forensic endorsement apprised of the vast amount of information necessary to be successful in their roles.
