Addressing Justice System Inequities Head-On

Whether disparate outcomes in justice systems take the shape of longer jail stays for people with serious mental illnesses or disproportionate rates of jail bookings among people of color, elevating these topics can be challenging.
Join county justice system directors for a discussion on how leaders of local criminal justice initiatives can effectively facilitate sensitive conversations about disparities in the system.
Coping with the impact of COVID-19 for people who use
disability programs and services

When you have a disability, everyday activities like going to work, going to the store, or even visiting with friends can take a lot of planning and coordination. Limitations and disruptions caused by COVID-19 have made those tasks even more complicated. The added stress of dealing with new challenges in addition to your everyday life can be difficult, and sometimes overwhelming. We invite you to join Dr. Karyn Harvey and DHS staff to discuss how to cope with the stress and uncertainty during the pandemic. The session will be a group discussion with time for your questions.
Registration for people who use disability programs and services
Registration is limited to the first 30 people who sign up using the registration form. The session intentionally is small to make sure there is time and opportunity for everyone to participate. If registration is full, sign up for the waitlist.

Learn about the concept of criminal thinking as a means of describing, understanding, assessing, and changing criminal behavior in this webinar from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s GAINS Center.
Training Dates / Times: RCA - October 19th thru October 22nd / 11am to 4pm Ethics - October 23rd thru October 24th / 11am to 4pm
Participants must attend all 6 days and complete all pre and post assignments to meet the educational requirements for certification.
Training cost: $600.00 which includes a $100.00 non-refundable deposit. Payments must be received no later than September 4, 2020. This class will be limited to 20 participants and is on a first come, first serve basis. This training will fill up quickly. Financial Assistance for Veterans Impacted by COVID-19
MDVA has had a tremendous response to the COVID-19 Disaster Relief and Special Needs Grants for Minnesota Veterans. We began accepting applications on Monday, April 6 and have received over 4,700 applications to date. We are striving to complete application processing as soon as possible.
Eligible applicants must be: 1. A Veteran or the surviving spouse of a deceased Veteran as defined by MN Statute 197.447; 2. A Minnesota Resident, and; 3. Negatively financial impacted by COVID-19.
It’s easy to apply: • Veterans can apply for the Disaster Relief Grant on our website. • To apply for the Special Needs Grant, Veterans should work with their County Veterans Service Officer.
Applications will continue to be accepted until the $6.2 million in funds are depleted. Veterans can apply through their County Veterans Service Officers or online at MinnesotaVeteran.org/COVIDRelief
COVID-19 Disaster Relief Grant application status The MDVA team is working as quickly as possible to process the applications for the COVID-19 grants. Some applicants have already received their checks.
