Showcase for Student Voices - Secrets

Monday, December 2 at 7 PM
at F1400 (Lecture Theater) Whitney Fine Arts Center-Minneapolis College Campus

Secrets is a one act play-in-progress by theater major and Theater Underground President, Deneal Trueblood to finally tell the true story of the spiraling events that took place over a lifetime, and that culminated in an assault, an incarceration and finally, a redemption. The first phase of this process is an informal reading of the script. This is a READING—not a full performance. Following this reading of “Secrets” we will open a discussion of the script to the audience and playwright.

Building Rapport While Maintaining Boundaries

with Justice Involved Youth

December 3, 2019, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
MCF-Red Wing

This training will focus on successful rapport building with difficult justice involved clients in all settings including chemical dependency treatment, residential settings, prisons, and community based supervision. It will focus on factors such as trauma, cultural differences, familial relationships, and past involvement with authority figures; particularly exploring how these factors can lead to difficulty in building healthy working relationships with our clients both in the community and in residential settings. We will look at the components of healthy rapport building through examples and case study. We will discuss strategies that you can use to build rapport and case study exploration to examine the issues that can arise when working with difficult clients.

APPA 2020 Winter Training Institute

January 5-8, 2020

New Orleans, LA

The theme for the 2020 Winter Training Institute is Safer Communities: Belief is the Foundation of Success. Steps to success begin by believing in people – believing they have the capacity to do good work. Clearly, adult and juvenile justice practitioners intend to excel in their craft and provide fitting programs, services, and resources to clients and communities. Although experiencing unique challenges, practitioners embrace justice transformation, sensible policies, and innovative and evidence-based practices. They are committed to this work, they are honing their skills, seeking the right combination of tools needed to assist clients – confident of their ability to navigate the road map of success. The work rests firmly on the foundation of belief – belief in this industry’s impact on public safety, because safer communities are important to everyone.
