Each December, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights hosts the Human Rights Symposium. The symposium brings together presenters and participants to explore ideas and best practices to reduce discrimination within the state of Minnesota.
Crossroads: Reconciling Our Vision for America – As Minnesota embarks on the next chapter of human rights in Minnesota, America and Minnesota are at a crossroads. Minnesota and the country are in the midst of extraordinary demographic changes. Across the United States, the importance of equity, human and civil rights in education, housing, health care, employment, the court system and many other areas is being challenged. Nearly 50 years after the Minnesota Human Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act were passed, America is a crossroad and must reconcile its vision for America.
Call for Presentations
If you are interested in presenting, please fill out the form below and submit by Friday, Sept. 14 to MDHR's ShareBase.

"If we can change an individual who is part
of a family-you affect the family, the family affects the community. So
now you have less crime, more employed people in your neighborhoods, people who
are safer to be around. This family is now an asset versus a drain on the
community. A healthy family produces healthy kids who positively
influence the future, a domino effect occurs for generations”
Lori Strong, Executive Director

Do you know someone who
would love to help others in recovery reach their goals and build on their
success? Encourage them to begin a year of service this fall at MN Department
of Corrections!
MN DOC Reentry Services is proud to have been awarded a Minnesota Recovery
Corps member beginning this fall. Minnesota Recovery Corps is a new program
designed specifically with direct or indirect experience in recovery to serve
other individuals who are trying to sustain their own recovery. This person is
not a sponsor or counselor, but a trained AmeriCorps member and mentor who
understands the journey of recovery. They will focus on helping individuals
reach their goals that can help build and sustain the great experiences that a
life in recovery can bring.
I need your help now to recruit
an individual for this opening! My goal is to fill this position by the end
of August to ensure they’re ready to start serving our clients. In addition
to extensive training, the member will receive on-site support and oversight
from a site supervisor.
Members come from many
backgrounds and experiences, including those who are on their own recovery
journey. In return for their service, members earn a living allowance,
educational award, federal student loan forbearance, and other benefits.
Positive social
supports impact the success of men and women releasing from prison settings
into community. Through the support of a recovery navigator as an addition to
our Reentry Services Unit, we can increase transition success of participating
men and women. Increased success means increased public safety and decreases in
recidivism. Our agency (and our state) benefits when men and women have less
frequent or no prison returns.
Please encourage
someone you know to apply online or learn more about the program, position
qualifications, and benefits at www.minnesotarecoverycorps.org For more information about the opening,
please email Kelley.Heifort@state.mn.us
