    MNSIRR Funded 2nd Annual

    Collaborative Reentry Summit:

    cogburst

Mark your calendars, because July 27th, 2018, will be a day of learning and collaboration as  MNDOC Community Reentry is hosting its Second Annual Collaborative Reentry Summit.  This event, at the Black bear Casino and Resort in Carlton, MN will feature national and international experts in cognitive thinking & reducing recidivism and is aimed at professionals that work one-on-one with clients.

The first Collaborative Reentry Summit, “Tools for Change”, was a success in providing professionals with insight on implementing evidence informed practices.  The Second Collaborative Reentry Summit will focus on the work being done after implementation.  How do we work one-on-one with a client?  How do we know if the intervention is powerful enough to change a client’s behavior?  Due to the work being done, professionals are now discussing how cognitive interventions affect the brain.  Breakout sessions such as “This is Your Brain on Cog,” and “How to Role Play,” will bolster knowledge and focus on cognitive restructuring.

The event is sponsored by the Minnesota Statewide Initiative to Reduce Recidivism (MNSIRR) grant  and the DOC. The DOC has been improving correctional practices in an effort to decrease recidivism.  Determining what is driving an individual’s criminal behavior and offering opportunities for professionals to help client’s change is what the MNSIRR grant is all about.  The summit emphasizes the goals of the initiative by:

    ·        Focusing on the people most likely to commit more crimes

    ·        Using programs to proven to work and ensuring the services are well-delivered

    ·        Targeting places where crime and recidivism rates are highest

As the DOC continues to examine methods to reduce recidivism, Community Reentry will continue to offer the services, support, and resources that are needed to help clients succeed in the community. For more information about the event, please contact MNSIRR Regional Coordinator Deborah Mason at deborah.mason@state.mn.us.

10th Annual Black Men in Healing Conference

    June 21 & 22, 2018
Metropolitan State University St. Paul Campus, Founders Hall
700 East Seventh Street, St. Paul MN 55106

This year's theme is “Sankofa, Go back to the past and bring forward that which is useful.” The goal is to examine the past 10 years of efforts to prevent community trauma and possible strategies to build resilience and a future of healing. Since 2009, this conference has provided an opportunity for meaningful community engagement and access to national and local educators, and community practitioners to discuss and introduce practical culturally sensitive trauma informed initiatives leading to the improved health and wellness of African American men and their families.
