Laborers Training - Everything You Always Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
Workforce
Development, Inc. and the Laborers Union are offering a four week training
starting Monday, May 7 and ending Friday, June 1. The goal of the
training is to give people an awareness of, and access to, a trade they might
not otherwise be aware exists. We have met with contractors and asked
them what should be included in the training so that a graduate would be
someone they would want to hire. We heard “Essential Skills” (soft
skills), an OSHA 30 certification, a flagger’s card, and an introduction to the
tools and terminology of the trade just to name a few of the topics. And
yes, those topics, and much, much more are all included in this four week
training.
Classes
run Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm to reflect a regular
day-in-the-life of a Laborer
Some

- Environmental
- Hazard material handling
- General construction work
- Landscape

- Road and bridge building
Skilled

A Trauma-Informed
Understanding of Maternal Mental Health in the Criminal Justice
System
Date: Friday, May 18, 2018
Presenter: Diana Barnes, Psy.D. Time: 8:30am-4:00pm Cost: $89.00 (6.0 CEUs) Location: Parkview Meeting &
Event Center in
the Mall of America (Bloomington, MN) View the course description PDF.
Description: Current research supports a trauma-informed approach to understanding
the origins of mental illness. Even in the courtroom, an individual’s history
of trauma often serves as a mitigating factor in sentencing. Our early
experiences set up expectations and response patterns for other situations and
circumstances across the lifespan. Numerous studies indicate that for women
with histories of complex childhood trauma, there is an elevated risk for
mental illness, including psychosis around the child-bearing years. Although
postpartum psychosis is rare, the potential for infanticide exists in women who
are not treated. This training provides an overview of postpartum psychosis
including prevalence, risk factors, symptoms and outcomes looking at maternal
mental health within the context of the criminal justice system... Read more.
