Metropolitan State University St. Paul Campus, Founders Hall
700 East Seventh Street, St. Paul MN 55106

This year's theme is “Sankofa, Go back to the past and bring forward that which is useful.” The goal is to examine the past 10 years of efforts to prevent community trauma and possible strategies to build resilience and a future of healing. Since 2009, this conference has provided an opportunity for meaningful community engagement and access to national and local educators, and community practitioners to discuss and introduce practical culturally sensitive trauma informed initiatives leading to the improved health and wellness of African American men and their families. Numerous studies indicate that for women with histories of complex childhood trauma, there is an elevated risk for mental illness, including psychosis around the child-bearing years. Although postpartum psychosis is rare, the potential for infanticide exists in women who are not treated. This training provides an overview of postpartum psychosis including prevalence, risk factors, symptoms and outcomes looking at maternal mental health within the context of the criminal justice system...
