    2018 Resource Fair 

    The annual Mid-Minnesota Transition Coalition Resource Fair was created to provide those who are struggling to transition back into society with the opportunity to connect with community resource providers. This two-hour event is designed to bridge resource providers with community members actively seeking a better path in life.

    We are seeking resource providers in the following areas:

    • Employers/Felony Friendly Employers
    • Housing/Felony Friendly Housing
    • Education Resources
    • Aftercare Resources
    • Community Support Services

    We ask that vendors would be willing to commit an hour and a half of their time to meeting with potential applicants/clients to discuss opportunities and services during the event.     ADVERSE CHILD EXPERIENCES (ACE) TRAINING

     

    Mental Well-Being and Resilience Learning Community


    The Northwest Hennepin Family Service Collaborative is pleased to host one of the Minnesota Department of Health Mental Well-being and Resilience Learning Communities that are taking place across Minnesota.The Minnesota Department of Health recently initiated the Mental Well-being and Resilience Learning Community (MWBRLC) an interactive monthly statewide webinar that includes local sites for group participation and local discussion.  

    • The MWBRLC takes place the last Tuesday of each month, from 10:00 am to 12:00.
    • The first hour is a webinar about an innovative strategy to promote mental well-being and resilience from a community or organization.
    • The second hour includes time for local community discussion about local resources and needs relevant to the presentation. 
    • You must register for each session. 
    • Registration for each monthly webinar is being taken by the Minnesota Department of Health.

    To participate you can go to the learning community location nearest you.

        ACEs Interface Training of Presenters

        There will be a two-day training (dates to be determined), that will provide attendees with the Understanding ACEs: Building Self-Healing Communities curriculum that was developed by Dr. Rob Anda and Laura Porter. This training is the first step to learning how to become part of a cohort of leaders and presenters who will sustain ACE work in the community. The training is being facilitated by Minnesota Communities Caring for Children (MCCC), in partnership with the Department of Human Services and the Park Nicollet Foundation. The NW Hennepin Family Service Collaborative is committed to continuing to support this important work in our community.

        Clinton Foundations’ 11th Annual Clinton Global Initiative University Meeting:  Sponsored Attendance for Students

        Early-decision application and scholarship deadline: March 16, 2018

        The University of Chicago, President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton will host the Clinton Foundation’s 11th annual Clinton Global Initiative University meeting on Oct. 19-21. More than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students from across the country and around the globe will gather to discuss and develop ideas and proposals to address some of the most pressing social, economic and environmental challenges facing the next generation.

        Applicants are required to submit a detailed plan for their commitment to action that addresses specific problems in one of five focus areas: education, environment and climate change, poverty alleviation, peace and human rights, and public health. The CGI U meeting is free to attend, and there are two application deadlines. If you are requesting travel and/or lodging assistance through the Clinton Foundation, you must submit your application by the early-decision deadline of March 16.         Health Disparities Round Table Incarceration: A Public Health Issue

        The Health Disparities Round table is an annual event at the end of National Public Health Week. The purpose of the round table is to bring national and local speakers to campus to discuss emerging issues in health and racial equity research, policy and/or practice. This year's round table will identify strategies to prevent individuals from entering the criminal justice system and examine what can be done to reduce the impact of incarceration on the health of family members.

          Description: Current research supports a trauma-informed approach to understanding the origins of mental illness. Even in the courtroom, an individual’s history of trauma often serves as a mitigating factor in sentencing. Our early experiences set up expectations and response patterns for other situations and circumstances across the lifespan. Numerous studies indicate that for women with histories of complex childhood trauma, there is an elevated risk for mental illness, including psychosis around the child-bearing years. Although postpartum psychosis is rare, the potential for infanticide exists in women who are not treated. This training provides an overview of postpartum psychosis including prevalence, risk factors, symptoms and outcomes looking at maternal mental health within the context of the criminal justice system...           2018 Opportunity Conference  

          March 26/27, 2018

          Health care professionals and government leaders are encouraged to attend the 2018 Opportunity Conference on March 26-27, in Brooklyn Center, Minn. Organized by Minnesota-based Rainbow Health Initiative; this is the largest LGBTQ health conference in the Midwest. It allows policy makers and practitioners to learn how to advance LGBTQ health from industry leaders through two full days of workshops and breakout discussions. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and participants will receive 13 credits upon completion of the conference.

                The Star of the North Fellowship Program 

                The program is open to applicants who have or will soon attain advanced degrees, and who demonstrate an interest in a career in public service. 

                It is also a great opportunity for individuals to gain distinctive professional experiences in the public sector, expand on skills and abilities through training and work-related projects, and network with senior leadership throughout state government. This is a cohort-based model fellowship with a one year assignment in a designated state agency.

                There are multiple opportunities across the state, available positions can be view here. Although all available positions have been posted, please note that new assignments can be added if an agency/division proposes one within the allotted timeframe.                 Minnesota Opportunity Corps members serve for 11 months at a community-based organization located in the Twin Cities metro area to make a difference in the lives of individuals with multiple barriers to employment, retention, advancement and economic self-sufficiency.  Members receive training and ongoing support for this position and will be placed at a partner organization serving the program's participants. 

                 

                Opportunity Navigator

                The Opportunity Navigator is a link, a guide, and an advocate  for program participants and/or students of training programs and career pathways. Navigators help program participants access resources related to career and industry information, education and training, and job opportunities.                 Minimum Qualifications

                You must meet the following minimum qualifications:

                • Must be 18 years of age, a US citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien, and a high school graduate (or GED recipient).

                • Demonstrated English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking.
                • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
                • Demonstrated experience with intermediate computer skills (word processing, internet, data entry, e-mail, comfort with database and software use, etc.).
                • Desire to affect systems change at the ground level; ability to connect the small details to the bigger picture.
                • Ability to build relationships and work with people of different cultures and backgrounds. 
                • Access to regular, reliable transportation
