Entering nine years of employment expansion, Minnesota’s

In the second half of the presentation, attendees learn
where to find and how to use DEED’s labor market information tools. Attendees
will navigate our website (www.mn.gov/deed/data/) and learn how to use the most relevant data tools to

Health Equity Resource Highlight: With Health
and Justice for All
What effect does time
in prison or jail have on our health?
As
public health professionals, we know that health is guided by where we live,
our schools, our access to health care, and more. Our health is also guided by
our interaction with the justice system, and this is especially true for people
of color. In Minnesota, the disparity between representation in the general
population vs. the population in prison is one of the highest in the
nation--for example, black men and women make up 5 percent of the state
population, but 31 percent of the prison/jail population.
"With
Health and Justice for All," a three-minute video from the American Public
Health Association (APHA), discusses the social and historical factors that
have led to higher rates of incarceration among people of color, and the
cyclical influence of punishment, imprisonment, trauma, and health. APHA
Executive Director Georges Benjamin, MD, discusses initiatives in California
that aim to help keep kids in school, in order to keep them out of jail,
connected to their communities, and in turn healthier.
