Brain Injury Educational ClassesThe Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offers a variety of educational classes - including our monthly Brain Injury Basics class - for families, individuals and professionals in the Twin Cities. Our educators can also train your staff on-site at your facility with our Traveling Workshops. Brain Injury Basics Adjustment to Brain Injury: January 26, 2017 Cargiving: February 23, 2017 Registration is required for all classes. Brain Injury Basics takes place in the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offices in Roseville from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for professionals; a $5 donation is appreciated from consumers. St. Cloud VA Health Care System, St. Cloud, MN - Health Focus Thursdays Announced
St. Cloud, Minn: Veterans served by the St. Cloud VA can help themselves stay healthy by attending one or more of a series of health education classes this fall. The classes are scheduled on select Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon, in Building 29, Room 20E, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, located at 4801 Veterans Drive in St. Cloud, MN.
The classes focus on health and well-being and each session covers a unique topic. No appointment or referral is needed, and Veterans may select the classes they want to attend. Co-pays may be required. One-way beneficiary travel reimbursement is available for eligible Veterans.

The monthly membership fee still applies.
To apply for YMCA membership, Veterans should go to their local YMCA and present their Veteran’s Health Identification Card, a copy of their DD214 form or a military ID card.

Foundation Seeks 2017-2018

Headwaters Foundation for Justice is now accepting applications to the New Majority Fund. Centering the self-determination and leadership of people of color, the Fund will support groups led by and for communities of color that use a community organizing approach to change systems of injustice. The fund draws on our long standing grantmaking criteria, and will provide organizations with two-year general operating grants, totaling $20,000. In addition to receiving funding, grantees will participate in Headwaters’ first-ever Movement Leadership Program during the second year of the grant. We are accepting applications now through Wednesday, March 1 via our online web portal. Please visit our website to review the eligibility guidelines and criteria. Community Innovation Grants – Accepting Applications Starting January 18 Headwaters Foundation will accept applications for Community Innovation Grants starting Wednesday January 18. Applications due no later than 5pm Thursday February 2 via our online web portal. Grants range from $500 to $10,000. Headwaters offers Community Innovation Grants in partnership with the Bush Foundation to support communities to use problem-solving processes that lead to more effective, equitable and sustainable solutions. We think of this as civic research and development, allowing communities to develop and test new solutions to community challenges. We strongly encourage all interested applicants to attend an Information Session. The W.E.B. Du Bois Program supports quantitative and qualitative research on the intersections of race, offending, victimization, and the fair administration of justice for both juveniles and adults. It furthers the Department's mission by advancing knowledge regarding the confluence of crime, justice, and culture in various societal contexts. This funding opportunity seeks investigator-initiated proposals to conduct research on topics linked to race and crime in the context of violence and victimization, crime and crime prevention, and justice systems.
Funding is available for two categories:
1. Scholars who are advanced in their careers may apply for up to $500,000 for research (excluding projects that only analyze secondary data) with a plan to mentor less experienced researchers
2. Fellows who are early in their careers may apply for up to $100,000 for secondary data analysis projects, or up to $150,000 for research projects involving primary data collection (a short-term residency at NIJ is optional)
