FED UP! Twin Cities Rally 2016

Date: August 31, 2016

Time: 4:00- 6:00 pm

Location: US Federal Courthouse Minneapolis, 300 4th St S, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415

Details: This year’s rally will be located outside the Minneapolis Federal Courthouse 300 S. 4th St., Minneapolis, MN. 55415 The rally will start at 4pm and conclude at 6pm.

Following the rally at 7pm there will be a candlelight vigil to mourn the loss of our loved ones and raise awareness to prevent further tragedy. The vigil will take place at All God’s Children Church 3100 Park Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN. 55407

The mission of The FED UP! Coalition is to create one voice calling for an end to the epidemic of addiction and overdose deaths attributed to opioids (including heroin) and other prescription drugs.

Continuing Education Units have been approved by the Board of Social Work and will be available at each seminar. The seminars will begin at 12 p.m. and be held at the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance office in Roseville.

    Minnesota Family Support and Recovery Council (MFSRC) Annual Conference!

    October 2 -5, 2016 at the Best Western Kelly Inn, St. Cloud

    Greetings from the Conference Planning Committee!  We have an exciting conference agenda coming soon, and we are confident that you will be as excited as we are about the sessions and speakers for the October 2-5, 2016, MFSRC Annual Training Conference!        

    For the 2016 conference  the rates will be:

    Early Bird Full Conference - $120  (was $115) + the daily $35 fee (Total of $190)

    Regular Full Conference - $170 (was $165) + the daily $35 fee (Total of $240)

    Hotel - $89 per night (was $83)

    Each year at our MFSRC conference, we seek nominations for individuals or groups in the areas of Child Support and Collections who will be recognized during our conference. Please help us by submitting your nominations early! The MFSRC Awards Committee would like to take this early opportunity to ask that you start thinking about your nomination(s) for our 2016 MFSRC Conference. Our nominations deadline is the end of August which will creep up on us before we know it.

    Timothy Walsh, MA, LP, DPA, a Vice President of Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, will present the latest in neurocognitive science regarding faith, spiritual practices, the impact on the brain, body and life outcomes. Tim will also apply this research to counseling approaches and techniques.

    DBT: A Foundation for Effective Trauma Intervention

    Michelle Frauenshuh, MA, LMFT, Director of Programs at Life Development Resources, will present on effective trauma interventions for dual diagnosis and SPMI populations. She will particularly focus on the Dialectic Behavioral Therapy model and its efficacy as the first layer of treatment when assisting those with high risk behaviors as a result of significant trauma.

    The Minnesota Office of Justice Programs is pleased to announce Track One of the Minnesota Victim Assistance Academy will be offered this fall, and applications are now being accepted!  

    The Minnesota Victim Assistance (MNVAA) is a series of comprehensive, academically based trainings to build the capacity of victim assistance providers, victim advocates, criminal justice professionals, law enforcement,  and other professionals who work with victims of crime. 

    2016 Training Dates:

    The 2016 Academy will kick off with a welcome reception/registration on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. Registration opens at 3:30 p.m. and the reception will start at 5:30 p.m.  The classroom instruction will be held October 26, 27, and a half day on October 28th and then again on November 16,17 and a half day on November 18th, 2016.  The location has yet to be determined as it is in the State's RFP bidding process, yet will be in the greater metro.  

    2016 MNVAA Application

    Applications for the 2016 Academy will be accepted until October 7, 2016. The fee is $175 and covers all expenses with the exception of dinner each night. Please complete the application form and submit it electronically to Joann Jones joann.jones@state.mn.us

    The 2016 Human Rights Symposium, hosted by the Department of Human Rights, is a full-day symposium that provides relevant information on the latest issues and legal decisions that impact you and your work. The HR symposium will include breakout sessions, extended networking activities and key issues such as: Diversity and Inclusion Strategies, Police and Community Relations, Civic Engagement, Voting rights, Disability and Employment, Recent U.S. Supreme Court Decisions, Equal Pay and Wage Equity, Pregnancy Accommodations, and MDHR Case Studies in Enforcement.
