The theme of the conference this year is Community Healing: “Standing up for the Children”. The conference would be held on June 23-24, 2016 at Metropolitan State University.
The overall goal of this year’s conference collaboration is to build on our evolving work and to reach more community stakeholders. We realize that a stronger, thriving African American community improves the health of the community and the society as a whole. Meet
Janet Johnson
We
are excited to welcome Janet Johnson as the new Program Director at Meridian
Behavioral Health’s Residential LGBT specific facility, Latitudes! Meridian
Behavioral Health is one of the leading addiction treatment providers in the
state with a full continuum of care spanning 7 residential, 9 outpatient
programs, and 1 medication-assisted treatment clinic.
Janet
comes to Meridian Behavioral Health with 18 years’ experience in the field of
Chemical Dependency. Entering the field in 1998 as a part-time Chemical
Health Technician, Janet quickly became a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor
and begin her counseling career in a women’s gender-specific, outpatient
facility. Being a recovering member of this community, Janet has long desired
to work with LGBTQ individuals. Janet personally knows and understands
the challenges of being LGBTQ and pursuing recovery from addiction. To
Janet, becoming the Program Director of the Latitudes LGBT Residential program
felt like coming home!

The training provides a comprehensive course on the program model The Council for Boys and Young Men, for participants of all experience levels and solidly sets the foundation for implementing a dynamic strengths-based group approach to promote boys’ and young men’s safe and healthy passage through pre-teen and adolescent years. The training incorporates a relational-cultural framework and masculinity research practices to help participants build on boys' abilities and create opportunities for resiliency and healthy relationships in boys’ and young men's lives. Workshop trainers use an experiential model of learning to include lecture, demonstration, group discussion, case studies, simulation, small group interaction, and brainstorming to stimulate participants’ learning.
This training is for service
providers, educators, therapists, corrections staff, social workers, mental
health workers, coaches, ministry staff and all caring adults who support
positive growth and development in youth. The model can be applied to all
systems of care including, but not limited to: schools, mental health, juvenile
justice, community-based organizations, substance abuse & gang prevention
and outdoor adventure groups.

Moving On is a gender responsive intervention program for
women involved in the criminal justice system. The Program can be delivered in both institutional and community
corrections settings. Moving On provides
women with alternatives to criminal activity by helping them identify and
mobilize personal community resources. The program encourages personal responsibility, enhances
motivation for change, expands connections by building healthy relationships,
enhances skills and provides skills for stress management.
Ramsey County Community Corrections is hosting a training
for corrections professionals interested in becoming facilitators of the Moving
On curriculum. This four day training will provide information on the
philosophy and guiding principles behind the development of the Moving On
program as well as detailed instructions on the facilitation of the six
curriculum modules. Each selected participant is expected to purchase their own
curriculum materials available through Hazelden publishing.

MN Community Corrections Association (MCCA)- Upcoming Training!
When: Friday, May 20, 2016 from 9:00 AM - 12:00
Where: Goodwill Easter Seals, 553 Fairview Ave. N, St. Paul, MN 55104
Training Summary: Learn about the core,
research-based correctional practices for eliciting change and reducing
recidivism for people in the criminal justice system. Understand what the Risk,
Need, and Responsivity principles are and why they should drive our work with
clients releasing from incarceration. In addition, all eight (8) core
correctional practices will be discussed, with exercise in two of the
practices.

all current MCCA members. If you are currently an MCCA member, please go to
