Hello Chanhassen Residents,
Yesterday, we were excited to have our groundbreaking ceremony for the new Civic Campus. The construction will begin immediately with site grading and utility work along W. 78th Street. This 2-year project begins with the construction of a new City Hall, located at the southeast corner of the site. The new City Hall will include a Senior Center, city offices, Council Chambers, meeting rooms, and open spaces for the public. Construction is slated to take one year. Upon completion of the City Hall, demolition of the existing City Hall will begin, fall 2025, and the parks portion of the civic campus will be constructed. The park amenities include a playground, performance stage, parks building/indoor restrooms, revamped skate park, pickleball courts, and open space for our farmers market and various events. It is an exciting time for Chanhassen!
Transformative projects like these naturally come with some consternation. For the past two years, the City Council took seriously and discussed fervently the financial impact to our residents and businesses. Community has always been at the center of our decision-making process, not only in terms of spaces and amenities, but the short- and long-term impact a project of this significance would have. While the existing City Hall and campus have served us well for many decades, we recognize the evolving needs of our growing community, the demands on city services, and our capital investments. We wanted to create a civic campus to bring our community together, make connections with one another, and live up to our motto, “a community for life.”
As taxpayers, we know you entrust the City Council to make fiscally responsible decisions. We are confident in this investment, and we are excited about the future of our downtown.
