Dear Chanhassen Residents,
Please see below for an update, a date change, and other important information. As always, I appreciate your engagement with the city.
Comcast
On Monday, the City Council was given an update that Comcast wants to enter into a Franchise Agreement to provide cable video service to the City of Chanhassen's residents and businesses. They would also offer broadband internet service, phone service, and home security. Comcast has indicated that they would provide up to 1GB of synchronous upload and download speeds, and commit to providing service throughout Chanhassen within 24 months of an approved Franchise Agreement. The city is working with its telecom attorney to develop a draft Franchise Agreement to be presented to Comcast for review.
While I know there may be skepticism that this will come to fruition based on the challenges with previous companies expressing interest, please know that the city is in full support of their efforts and their goal of beginning infrastructure construction this summer.
Chanhassen Cinema and Hotel Redevelopment
On Monday, March 11, the Council voted to table the proposal by Roers Companies to redevelop the Chanhassen Cinema and Country Inn & Suites. With questions and comments from the public, we needed more clarification on parking and road connections which staff will be working on addressing. Additionally, I shared that more work needed to be done on the architectural aspects of the building. The city is making a significant investment in our civic campus and city hall, therefore, the developer needed to be held to those same standards.
City Council met with Roers Companies during our Work Session on Monday, March 18 to provide feedback on the elevated design standards we’d like to see incorporated. We will hold a follow-up Work Session meeting on Monday, March 25 where Roers Companies will share updated drawings. The formal application and Plat approval will come before the City Council again on April 15. This item was tabled until April 8; however, due to a scheduling conflict, it has been moved to April 15.
We appreciate the involvement from residents. We recognize not everyone is able to attend the meetings, so please continue to email me directly or make comments through publiccomments@chanhassenmn.gov.

Minnetonka Middle School West Roundabout
A new roundabout will be constructed on Highway 41 this summer. The project will improve vehicular and pedestrian operations and safety at the TH41/MMSW entrance intersection by improving access while also slowing vehicles along TH 41 as they approach the intersection.
The project is set for work this summer. Access to the school will be maintained during construction, however TH41 will likely be closed for much of the construction period. Detour routes will be planned, communicated, and posted well in advance of the work starting.
Save-the-date for a Public Open House on Wednesday, April 24, 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Chanhassen Recreation Center (2310 Coulter Boulevard, Chanhassen). Learn more about the project here.
Thank you for the outpouring of emails regarding the “Missing Middle” housing legislation. I appreciate the feedback and those who took action and followed up with our legislators.
Warmest Regards,
Elise Ryan
