Hello Chanhassen Residents,
Please see below for an update on items happening in Chanhassen.
City Council Meeting – Monday, February 13, 2023
Road Construction Projects
- Approved preparation of plans and specs for the 2023 road projects.
- The neighborhoods impacted are: Curry Farms/Mulberry Circle, Creek Run Trail, Lake Susan Hills West, Saddlebrook, Mission Hills Lane, Ches Mar Drive, Bramble Drive, Sunridge Court, Oakside Circle, and Creekwood Drive.
- Save the dates: Public Open House & Neighborhood Meeting – May 2, 2023 and a Public Hearing at the City Council meeting to accept bids on May 8, 2023.
- Through this process, residents asked us for more advance notice of road projects to ensure residents have more time to plan for the financial impact. We appreciate this feedback and are changing our notification practices beginning this year. Residents who live on a 2024 street project will receive a postcard this spring with more information.
- Please follow this link to understand the following important components of our road project planning and funding.
- We take the feedback seriously and are committed to make the needed changes.
Avienda – Recreational Facility
- The Level 7 representative joined our Work Session to provide an update on construction costs.
- Construction cost approximately $55 million.
- Facility to include two sheets of ice, indoor walking track, field house with turf, community room spaces, and restaurant connected to the facility.
- Architect working on drawings for publication in the next few weeks.
- Chanhassen is moving through the legislative approval process for a local option sales tax (LOST) of an additional .5% to fund the city’s portion of the recreational facility. We would find out from the legislature in May if the city can hold a public referendum in November 2023 to approve a local option sales tax.
Civic Campus
- City Council reviewed an updated design for the Civic Campus, bringing investment and energy into our downtown.
- Plan to include: new city hall and senior center, splash pad, universal playground, green & open spaces for events and our concerts series, pickle ball courts, and an updated skate park, which were amenities brought forward by our Parks Task Force.
- Community engagement and feedback on the design concept is planned for spring 2023.
- Please follow this link to review our 2022 facilities study.
Twin Cities and Western Railroad Company Line
- After recent derailments around the country, particularly in Ohio, I was asked about what is coming through Chanhassen.
- They ship organic grains, corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, sugar, sugar beet pulp pellets, molasses, canned and frozen vegetables, ethanol, DDG’s, crushed rock, coal, metals, plastics, fuel oil, machinery, lumber and other forest products, manufactured goods, fertilizers, and salt.
- TC&W can be contacted directly at their office in Glencoe for further inquiries at 320-864-7232.
- They offer free safety presentations (about 45 minutes), which can be scheduled by emailing Holli Schafer at hschafer@tcwr.net or 320-864-7203.
As you can see, we are busy with a number of current and future projects. If you are interested in learning more or have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at eryan@chanhassenmn.gov.
Warmest Regards,
Elise Ryan Mayor of Chanhassen
