Hello Chanhassen Residents,
We are off to a quick start with getting our Council in place and looking for our future City Commissioners.
City Council
- City Councilmen Jerry McDonald (re-elected 2022), Mark von Oven (elected 2022), and I as Mayor (re-elected 2022) were sworn into office on Monday, January 9.
- With former Councilmember Rehm’s vacant seat, the City Council opened the application process to fill her remaining two years of the term. We received 11 applications, and after conducting interviews with four finalists, Josh Kimber has been appointed to the City Council. We appreciate the 11 candidates who applied – it is always wonderful knowing residents want to serve their community.
- Congratulations to Josh Kimber who will be sworn in to fill the remaining two years of the 4-year term on Monday, January 23.
- To reach City Council members, please email council@ci.chanhassen.mn.us
City Commissions
- Please consider applying for one of our five city commissions: Planning, Parks & Recreation, Economic Development, Environmental, and Commission on Aging. It is an excellent way to get involved, give back, and influence future decisions.
- Applications and information can be found here.
- Applications are due January 27, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.
United States Postal Service Delays
I have been hearing from residents regarding mail delays. We have been informed the Chanhassen branch does not currently have a postmaster and they are facing significant challenges with overall staffing. The Victoria and Chaska Postmasters are sharing coverage at the Chanhassen branch. They have told us that most carriers are delivering two routes per day, working fourteen hours per day. When they cannot deliver routes every day, they are trying to rotate so routes don’t get missed multiple days in a row. The Post Office says you can greatly help carriers by shoveling sidewalks and mailboxes to assist them with doing their work safely.
I have been in touch with Congressman Emmer’s office, please see below with their update:
- Congressman Tom Emmer joined the Minnesota Republican congressional delegation on January 10, 2023, demanding answers from the Postmaster General regarding the United States Postal Service’s plan to resolve the current backlog of mail and to address the concerning staffing shortages at post offices throughout the state of Minnesota.
- Congressman Emmer’s staff contacted the United States Postal Service requesting an expedited response to his questions and a follow-up meeting to address the mail backlog. The Postal Service confirmed they are working on addressing the congressman’s questions and will meet with his office to discuss the concerns of constituents in Chanhassen and across the state.
- If constituents in Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District have a problem with a federal agency, including Postal Service, please reach out to Congressman Emmer’s congressional office for assistance:
I hope everyone is off to a great start to the year. I will have numerous updates regarding developments and opportunities for public input. As always, please feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns eryan@chanhassenmn.gov.
Warmest Regards,
Elise Ryan Mayor of Chanhassen
