Hello Chanhassen Residents,
I hope you are enjoying your summer! Please see below for my city update.
Parks Referendum
Earlier this year, the City Council created a Referendum Task Force comprised of residents and representatives from various athletic associations to explore a parks referendum on the 2022 November ballot. The task force met twice a month, and reviewed deficiencies in our system, the desires of residents, capital improvements, land availability, associated costs, and future budgets.
The task force did an incredible job presenting the City Council with many options and ideas, and we are grateful for their thought leadership, time, and commitment. Through discussion, the City Council has opted to continue to refine priorities, explore partnership opportunities, and more fully vet what is needed in our Parks System. We all want to make sure we get it right and are pleased the task force has agreed to continue working together to explore referendum options for the future.
Hackamore Brewing Company
The City Council approved the request to permit a commercial kitchen as part of the Hackamore Brewery taproom. The brewery will be located at 18671 Lake Drive East and will consist of upscale pub food, golf simulator, and space for live music. We look forward to adding another taproom in Chanhassen as they hope to be open by the end of the calendar year.
Avienda Village Update
The developer will return to the Planning Commission on August 16 to request an amendment to their PUD. There are a variety of requests relating to the housing and entertainment elements of the project. Both city staff and I have requested a neighborhood meeting to take place prior to the Commission meeting; however, the developer has no legal requirement to do so.
A public hearing will be held at the Planning Commission, allowing residents to comment on the proposed changes. The staff report and packet will be available by the end of day on August 10.
Galpin Boulevard Improvement Project Open House
On Thursday, July 28 from 5-7 p.m. at the Chanhassen Library, the city will be hosting an open house to share the concepts developed to this point and listen to your feedback regarding how you use the corridor and issues you see. The concepts are for the Galpin Blvd. corridor north of Highway 5 to the Chanhassen-Shorewood city limits. If you can’t make the meeting, please visit the project website to provide feedback at www.galpinblvd.com.
MetroNet
What is happening? While installation has been slower than expected, MetroNet has submitted a few permits and a site-plan application as part of their build-out. Like many businesses, we hear that there are staffing challenges with their installers. The city has not been a barrier to their path forward and we hope to see progress soon.
City staff is in weekly communication emphasizing the importance of this build-out as it is a priority for residents, businesses, and the city.
I am always available and happy to answer any questions. Please don’t hesitate to reach out: eryan@ci.chanhassen.mn.us.
Warmest Regards,
Elise Ryan Mayor of Chanhassen
