2024 Conservation Planning Course

Registration is still open for the 2024 Conservation Planning Course, which will be held July 29 to Aug. 2 at the West Central Research & Outreach Center in Morris. Course attendees are required to be Level I Conservation Planners before attending, and it is expected that those attending this course will complete the additional requirements to become Level III Conservation Planners. The Level I Conservation Planner requirements can be found here. In addition to being a Level I Conservation Planner, all attendees need to complete the Core Competency modules before attending.

The prerequisites for this course will take approximately 55 hours to complete, and it is recommended that attendees have at least one year of experience before attending. If you are unable to complete the prerequisites or feel you need more experience before attending, we are planning to hold this course again in 2025. The better prepared you are for this training the more you will get out of it!

Additional information and a link to register can be found here.

Basic Hydrology Training

TTCP is offering a Basic Hydrology training in Detroit Lakes on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This training will cover the basic concepts of determining hydrology for common conservation practices. Students will learn about reading and delineating contour maps through example problems. By the end of the day students will be able to delineate a watershed, quantify the applicable information needed to run EFH2 and determine a peak discharge. For additional information and to register, please visit the Basic Hydrology page.

Continuous Living Cover 101 Training Now Available

Green Lands Blue Waters recently announced the launch of Continuous Living Cover 101, a self-paced, online course for agricultural, conservation, and technical assistance professionals - as well as anyone else who is curious to learn more about CLC! Continuous Living Cover 101 introduces the concept, describes five basic strategies (annuals + cover crops, agroforestry, perennial grains, perennial forage and grazing, and perennial biomass) to achieve CLC, and goes over economic and environmental benefits with on-farm examples. It also covers how to talk to farmers and support them in choosing and implementing CLC strategies.

The course is hosted on the Regenerative Ag Idea Website, which offers an easy-to-use LearnDash-based platform. The course requires about three hours of time to complete, and users can take the course at their own pace and save progress to return to it later. The course is divided into six modules with short quizzes, real-life examples, and resource recommendations throughout.

This course was developed in partnership with the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, and Wisconsin Land and Water, and was reviewed by farmers and subject matter experts. It is available at no cost on the Regenerative Ag Idea Network website.
