2022 Individual Development Plans Due September 23
The Individual Development Plan (IDP) cycle begins each year with identifying local conservation priorities. These local priorities could be identified in Local Work Group meetings, One Watershed One Plan plans, watershed assessments, or by other methods. This process will identify the local priority resource concerns that require treatment, and the conservation practices that will treat them.
Once the local priorities have been established, managers and technical staff should work together to assess their capabilities to perform assessments as well as plan, design, and install practices that will address the local priority resource concerns. If technical staff lack the technical skills and/or conservation practice credentialing, such as Job Approval Authority, these missing capabilities become the priority training needs for those employees.
This year we are asking everyone to complete or update their IDP by Friday, September 23.
In addition to first time users creating new IDPs, we are asking everyone to make sure their technical training requests are up to date. For the coming year, we will not consider any training needs dated prior to January 1, 2022. This will better reflect the needed technical skills and improve the accuracy of training delivery in 2023. Updating your training needs is a quick process. Simply resave any training needs that are still current or delete items that are no longer needed. We have developed a brief video demonstrating how to do this.
We have also assembled several resources to assist you in completing your IDP:
During October and November, training needs identified in IDPs will be reviewed locally by your Area Technical Training Team (ATTT), and statewide by the TTCP Training Team, to determine priority training needs for the next year. Local priorities may be developed into regional or statewide courses, which are used to develop the 2023 training plan. TTCP can also target OJT and small group trainings based on your submitted needs.
If you would like to know more about IDPs and how TTCP uses the information, check out this Webinar Replay. Also, a summary of the 2021 IDP technical training requests can be found here.

Windbreaks and Tree/Shrub Establishment Training
A Windbreak and Tree/Shrub Establishment training is coming up in Watonwan County on September 21, Crow Wing County on September 22, and Becker/Clay County on September 23. This field based training will review and analyze windbreaks and shelterbelts on different sites to look at design considerations, effectiveness, and long-term maintenance. Site preparation, planting stock, and planting methods will be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to design a windbreak/shelterbelt or living snow fence for an example site. Additional information and a link to the registration can be found here.
2022 Training Calendar
As mentioned in the July edition of Train Tracks, we have started sharing the working version of our training calendar. This 12 month view of training offerings will provide additional information about upcoming trainings, including potential locations and other information, and it will be updated monthly. The dates, locations, and other details are always tentative until the event is posted on the Training Calendar. The working version of the training calendar can be found here.
