Successful and effective presentations and trainings are more than just the content. It is, also, about the how the presenter or trainer presents the content to the audience. As shared in Presentationzen by Garr Reynolds, a trainer should keep in mind “Stand, Deliver, and Connect.”A trainer should stand to deliver content and be careful to not put a barrier, such as a podium, between him/herself and the audience.A podium projects a sense of authority and command to the audience; however it is similar to standing behind a wall which creates a barrier to delivering the content and connecting with the audience. If you are using a PowerPoint, you should not stand between the screen and projector but to the side.Use a wireless remote to advance the slides.
Finally, keep the lights on when using a PowerPoint.Today, inexpensive projectors can be purchased that are bright enough in projecting to not need to turn the lights off or only require dimming the lights. It has been shown that audiences will better understand the presenter’s message when they can both hear and see the presenter.Put the above tips into practice to enhance your presentation skills and deliver successful and effective presentations and trainings!
