Excellent Concerts at the Center for the Arts this Winter!

The Center for the Arts is busy this winter with a variety of upcoming performances. The always popular Arne Fogel and Maud Hixson are returning to the Center for the Arts February 22. Get in the mood for the Oscars by attending their performance of Hollywood's Favorite Movie Songs. New to the Center for the Arts but with high praise will be The Jack Brass Band concert about the history of New Orleans Brass Bands on Friday, February 28 and  the Girl Singers of the Hit Parade on Saturday, March 1.

This concert will cover material spanning more than 100 years of New Orleans brass band history. It will include narration about the origins of the music and the social role that brass bands play at community events.

This concert presents so-called character pieces: compositions that portray specific moods, ideas, events, people and so on. The works in this musical genre express a wide range of emotions and are written in a variety of styles and forms. Featured is a tribute to well-known, American composer Leroy Anderson.
