Welcome Back!
We are very excited for the 6th season of the Bloomington Farmers Market! We will kick off the season on Saturday June 9th and run every Saturday thru October 13th from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
This week at the market you will find strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus, green onions, kale, potatoes, sweet peas, garlic scapes and lettuce. We have many returning vendors as well as some new vendors including granola, gluten free breads, jams, snack mixes, even pet treats! We love four legged friends but due to health regulations dogs are not allowed at the market, but now you can bring them home a treat. The expansion of the market means a new layout so please click on the link for the full vendor list and vendor map to find your favorite vendors.
EBT and Credit Cards will again be accepted at the market! You will now find the city tent at the entrance to the market and you can purchase your EBT and Credit card tokens here!
This Saturday kids can stop by and plant some sunflower seeds from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. (limited to the first 100 customers). We also have a great band to get things rolling, The Roe Family singers will be at the market from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., there will be a new seating area with tables and chairs set up for you to enjoy a cup of coffee and listen to the music!

Farmers Market Parking Map

Due to safety concerns there will no longer be handicapped parking adjacent to the market, but extra handicapped parking will be added at the north end of the Civic Plaza west lot and across 98th street in the Public Works east parking lot.
This change will make the market safer for all of our guests and as a result will provide space for additional vendors and an expanded seating area.
Garlic Scape Pesto - Sogn Valley Garden

- 1 pound of garlic scapes
- 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
- olive oil (about 1/2 to 1 cup)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
- 1/2 cup walnuts or pinenuts (optional)
- Add any herb that you would like to enhance the flavor. Suggestions would be dill, basil or cilantro.
Chop the garlic scapes into 3 inch lengths. Put in the food processor and process until pureed. Add the parmesan and walnuts and process until smooth. Add lemon juice then slowly add the olive oil as the food processor runs and continue until all the oil is combined into the garlic. Store in an air-tight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze.
Garlic Scapes are here - Special treats for garlic lovers! Garlic Scapes are the part of the garlic plant that sprouts out early with the attached seed bulb. The entire scape is edible and makes for an amazing treat in your cooking.
Scapes can be chopped, sauteed, or grilled and put on your favorite entrees or simply use as a side dish. They are really good in a stir fry of vegetables. The flavor is a mild, almost sweet garlic flavor and they freeze great.
The above recipe is a favorite and can be used on pastas, sandwiches, foccacia bread, a touch in salad dressings or as a spread on any grilled or baked chicken, fish or meat. You will find the Garlic Scapes at Sogn Valley Garden, stall #4 on the North side of the market.
