2018 Diversity Day Peace Run

Group at Diversity Day

The Bloomington Human Rights Commission, in partnership with the Office of Educational Equity, hosted the annual Diversity Day Peace Run on Friday, May 4. The programming was driven by an active group of student leaders from Jefferson and Kennedy. Approximately 300 students from Kennedy and Jefferson High School started the run together at Jefferson High School and ran to the finish line at Civic Plaza where they were cheered on by City staff.

The morning ended with winners from the Diversity Day Poetry & Spoken Word Contest sharing their poems “As a Female” written by Kennedy sophomore, Jazzlyn DuBay, and “Colorism” written by Jefferson freshman, Darilynne Shilibwa.

Diversity Day was supported by the Bloomington Police Department, Communications Division, Joint Community Police Partnership Multicultural Advisory Committee, League of Women Voters Bloomington, Richfield Bloomington Credit Union, Bloomington Education Foundation, Jefferson and Kennedy PTSA’s, and Allina Health.
