Shoe Away Hunger

Human Services and Public Works are hosting a shoe drive for Good in the 'Hood’s Shoe Away Hunger Program though April 6.  For every pair of gently used or new shoes/boots donated, an individual can be provided with seven days’ worth of essential groceries. Collection barrels will be located at both north entrances of Civic Plaza, and in the Public Works lunchroom. 

Good in the 'Hood is a local nonprofit that provides food distribution and a hot meal on the first and third Tuesday of every month at Cedarcrest Free Methodist Church (1630 E. 90th St.).

Talk with a Bloomington Public Health Nurse regarding fall prevention education, medication review, blood pressure check, understanding lab results, safety, healthy living tips, assistance contacting your clinic or insurance company, resources and more. 


Spring Art Series Classes in Partnership with Artistry

The Human Services Adults 50+ Program offers art classes at Creekside Community Center in partnership with Artistry. Classes are led by skilled professionals with subject matter expertise and a commitment to each student’s development. No previous art experience required, all materials provided. 

Clay May Day Baskets

Friday, April 13, 1 - 3 p.m.
$20, Register by April 6

Use ceramic hand-building techniques to create a unique and handmade vase or May Day basket to hold your favorite spring flowers. Clay projects will be painted with colorful slips and clear glazed for finishing (making them water safe). Projects will be available for pickup at Creekside in time for the May Day.

Spring Flowers in Pen and Ink with Watercolor

Friday, April 27, 1 - 3 p.m.
$15, Register by April 20

There are three marks used in detailed pen and ink drawings; lines, dots, and ink washes. This class will teach you various drawing and mark making techniques while you learn to draw beautiful and realistic flowers. At the end of class we will use basic watercolor painting techniques to accent your favorite drawing from class.

Martha, Cub Foods Lyndale floral designer, will help you brush up on your design skills as she leads you through this workshop.  All Supplies provided.  Space is limited.

Acrylic Paint Exploration

Friday, May 4, 1 - 3 p.m.
$15, Register by April 27

Acrylic paint is a fun and versatile medium. Come learn how to mix and control gradations in color, create effects through blends, dry-brush and washes, and create various textures. Students will learn how to break down an image into simple shapes and dark and light values. 


Protect Your Nest Egg! Prevent Financial Exploitation and Scams

Come and learn how you can avoid financial exploitation and keep your finances safe and secure.  A free workshop will take place on Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bloomington Civic Plaza, 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road.  

The workshop will include presenters from law enforcement, financial services and legal.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Book'Em Book Drop Off

April 2, - June 1, 2018
(Collecting books in advance of the sale in June)

From April 2 to June 1, the Bloomington Crime Prevention Association is collecting books for their annual Book’Em Used Book Sale.  

Drop off your books to support Bloomington organizations' crime prevention activities. Drop-off locations include Bloomington Civic Plaza, Creekside Community Center and Public Works.
