Kite Day Rescheduled

Kite Day

Kite Day has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 22, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Don't miss this annual family friendly event!

Free kites for those 18 and younger while supplies last.

Entertainment will be provided by Bob and the Beachcombers, Circus Manduhai, Mariachi Son de Morelos, and Harisen Daiko.

Activities will include inflatables from Dunk N Jump (free of charge), kite flying contest, craft projects with Home Depot and Artistry, and large kite flying demonstrations with Mr. Kite, Craig Christensen.

Watercolor Paint Series

Watercolor

Human Services is partnering with Artistry to bring workshops to Creekside Community Center. 

Upcoming sessions:

Watercolor Painting
Friday, July 21, 1 - 3 p.m.
Students will learn the basics of watercolor painting including color mixing, blending, layering, block-outs, wet-on-wet techniques, washes and dry brush techniques. Registration deadline: Friday, July 14. 

Pen and Ink Drawing with Watercolor
Friday, August 4, 1 - 3 p.m.
Various pen and ink drawing techniques will be covered in conjunction with ink wash and watercolor wash accents. Class instruction will include design basics, editing a composition that is suitable to pen-and-ink, black and white drawing techniques, creating texture, using an ink or watercolor wash, and drawing from photographs. Registration deadline: Friday, July 28. 

Watercolor 3-Dimensional Paintings
Friday, August 18, 1 - 3 p.m.
Using tag board, watercolor paper and foam core students will create low relief layered painted imaged with a foreground, mid-ground and background. Brush handling, color mixing, blending, stamping and basic relief techniques will be covered. Registration deadline: Friday, August 11. 

Classes are $15. Registration required. Space is limited. Contact Human Services at Creekside Community Center, 952-563-4944, TTY 952-563-4933.


Vietnam Era Veterans Summer Picnic

As part of the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Partnership, all Vietnam Era Veterans and their families are welcome to the Vietnam Era Veterans Summer Picnic Saturday, July 8, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Moir Park. 

Enjoy a complimentary lunch, learn more about the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of American Agent Orange Education Campaign and share your story with TPT - Twin Cities PBS for Minnesota Remembers Vietnam. 

Donations provided by Festival Foods, Taste of Scandinavia Bakery, Feldmann Imports, Culver's, BrightStar Care, Home Instead Senior Care, Culligan, American Legion Post 550, Saint's Commercial Food Service, Sam's Club, Cub Foods (Lyndale) and Cub Foods (France).


Managing Arthritis Pain

Join Human Services for this free presentation Tuesday, July 11, 1 - 3 p.m. to learn about managing arthritis pain through both traditional and Chinese Medicine: the Qigong practice of Eight Silken Movements.

Presented by Robert Tuttle, MD and Jayson Kind, RN, BS, BCTMB, HNB-BC. Cosponsored by the Joint Replacement Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

Property Tax Assistance

Human Services sponsors the homeowners and renters free property tax preparation for low-middle income individuals and families Tuesday, July 18, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Creekside Community Center. 

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will help complete Minnesota property tax and renters refund returns. No appointments, walk-in only. 


Fare For All

Stop by Creekside Community Center Wednesday, July 19, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. for the monthly Fare For All distribution. 

Fare For All provides packages of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as frozen meat items. There are no qualifications or income restrictions. Pay with cash, credit, or EBT.

Packages:

  • Produce package ($10) - typically includes 5 varieties of fresh vegetables and two varieties of fresh fruits
  • Mini meat pack ($11) - a minimum of four assorted meat items (3 - 5 lbs), does not include pork
  • Combo pack ($20) - save an extra $1 by combining the produce and mini meat packs
  • Mega meat pack ($25) - typically includes 7 - 9 meat items
