Diversity Day

Diversity Day

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) cosponsors Diversity Day and the Peace Run at the Bloomington Public Schools. The public is welcome to attend and check in as a guest at either Jefferson or Kennedy High School for Diversity Day Friday, May 5.

The HRC will also sponsor a Diversity Day booth at Olson Middle School Friday, May 19, 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.


Violence in the Name of Religion

Join Human Services Saturday, May 20, 3 - 4:30 p.m. at Creekside Community Center in sponsoring Osman Elhadary, who was born in Cairo, Egypt and is a retired General of the Egyptian Army. He presents his views, respects others' religions, and works for a world free of hate.


State of the City

Jamie Verbrugge, City Manager, will give a State of the City recap to the Commission at its May 15 meeting.


Get Involved

The nine member Human Rights Commission meets the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the McLeod Conference Room at Bloomington Civic Plaza. The public is encouraged to attend. 


Seeking Applicants

Bloomington is seeking applications for adults to serve on the Human Rights Commission. Applicants are appointed by the City Council and must be residents of Bloomington. Applications are available online.


Pacer Unity Awards

Pacer Unity Awards 2016

The Bloomington Human Rights Commission and PACER will be honoring students and community members who have gone above and beyond to help address bullying Thursday, May 25, 6 - 7 p.m. (reception), and 7 - 9 p.m. (ceremony) at Bloomington Civic Plaza. Recognition will be given to those who have made outstanding contributions to address and prevent bullying.
