Vietnam Era Veterans Appreciation Brunch

Vietnam Era Veterans

Vietnam Era Veterans and a guest are invited Tuesday, April 4, 9 - 10:30 a.m. to attend this free event featuring a complimentary brunch, music, and an opportunity to visit with fellow veterans. 

Cosponsored by American Legion Post 550 and Home Instead Senior Care.


Tax Assistance

Human Services partners with Prepare + Prosper and AARP Tax-Aide to make these programs available. Tax assistance will be provided to individuals who meet income requirements. Taxpayers with complex tax returns are advised to seek paid tax assistance.

Ice Cream Social and Bingo with a Cop

Human Services hosts this free upcoming ice cream social and bingo event. 

This event will take place Friday, April 7, 1 - 2:30 p.m. at Bloomington Civic Plaza (1800 W. Old Shakopee Rd.).

Coffee Talk: Gifts of Love - Pre-planning

Friday, April 21, 10-11 a.m. at Creekside Community Center.

Funeral pre-planning is something done for loved ones, not for oneself. Every year, more and more people are planning ahead for their funeral services so their loved ones don’t have to. Learn why you want to plan ahead, how to create your wishes in writing, and make sure your needs are taken care of.

Free event. Refreshments provided

Register by Thursday, April 20.


Kite Day Volunteers

Kite Day

Looking to volunteer? Human Services is looking for Kite Day volunteers. 

Volunteer opportunities:

  • Set-up and clean-up (involves heavy lifting, setting up tents, chairs, etc.)
  • Register participants and distribute free kites 
  • Provide kite assembly and repair 
  • Provide supervision at event activities such as inflatables and bol kite races

Shifts are available 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in 2 - 4 hour shifts (or longer if interested). 

To volunteer, fill out a volunteer application and background authorization form and return to the Human Services Division at Creekside Community Center. 


Celebrate Older Americans Month

Older Americans are not only working longer, they are also trying new things and engaging in their communities. #AgeOutLoud to celebrate Older Americans Month during the month of May. Human Services will celebrate older Americans taking charge and continuing to live to their fullest by hosting a variety of events and programs throughout the month.

Citywide Garage Sales

Garage Sales

The Bloomington Optimist Club, with support of Bloomington Human Services will host the Citywide Garage Sale Thursday, May 18 - Saturday, May 20.

Registration deadline is Friday, May 12, 4:30 p.m. Signs and lists will be available for pickup Tuesday, may 16 at Creekside Community Center, 3 - 7 p.m. 

The listing will be available to the public Wednesday, May 17 at Axtell & Haller, LLC (10510 France Ave. S., Bloomington, MN 55431) for $3.
