Kite Day

Kite Day

Kite flyers of all ages are invited to the annual Kite Day celebration at Valley View Playfield Saturday, May 20, 12 - 3 p.m.

Enjoy live entertainment, activities, and more! Free kites for those 18 and younger while supplies last.

Celebrate Older Americans Month

Older Americans are not only working longer, they are also trying new things and engaging in their communities. #AgeOutLoud to celebrate Older Americans Month during the month of May. Human Services will celebrate older Americans taking charge and continuing to live to their fullest by hosting a variety of events and programs throughout the month. 

Upcoming events:


Bike Basics for Boomers

Join us at Creekside Community Center Friday, May 12, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. for a workshop geared toward adults looking to get back on their bike.

Bring your bike and helmet to class. Minor bike adjustments and helmet fittings are included.

The workshop will cover basic rules of the road, bike maintenance, and best practices for being safe and confident on the road or trail.

Cost: $15. Registration required by Friday, May 5. Cancellation policy applies.


Annual Plant Exchange

Annual plant exchange

The Creekside Garden Club will host its annual plant exchange Saturday, June 3, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Creekside Community Center. 

The public is invited to this free event to exchange, donate or adopt a plant. The goal of the event is to encourage people of all ages and skills to get outside and garden. 

A Master Gardener and a kid's activity booth will be available. This event is in partnership with Human Services and the Bloomington Farmers' Market.

Fare For All

Stop by Creekside Community Center Wednesday, May 17, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. for the Fare For All distribution. 

Open to everyone. This food distribution program can save you up to 40 percent on brand-name groceries. Items include fresh produce, frozen meat and other basic groceries. There are no income guidelines. Cash, credit, debit, and EBT are accepted.


Violence in the Name of Religion

Join Human Services Saturday, May 20, 3 - 4:30 p.m. at Creekside Community Center in sponsoring Osman Elhadary, who was born in Cairo, Egypt and is a retired General of the Egyptian Army. He presents his views, respects others' religions, and works for a world free of hate.


African Workforce and Entrepreneurial Development (AWED)

The African Workforce & Entrepreneurial Development (AWED) organization serves all immigrant groups, low income and in need of coaching to find employment, or those who need mentors to help guide them. Additionally, AWED will match people to a wide array of wraparound services and ongoing support in a judgement-free approach. AWED, located at Creekside Community Center will offer services several weeknights and one Saturday a month. AWED may be contacted by calling 952-290-0948.


Citywide Garage Sale

Citywide Garage Sales

The Bloomington Optimist Club, with support of Bloomington Human Services will host the Citywide Garage Sale Thursday, May 18 - Saturday, May 20.

Registration deadline is Friday, May 12, 4:30 p.m. Signs and lists will be available for pickup Tuesday, May 16 at Creekside Community Center, 3 - 7 p.m. 

The listing will be available to the public Wednesday, May 17 at Axtell & Haller, LLC (10510 France Ave. S., Bloomington, MN 55431) for $3.


All City Volunteer Breakfast

Volunteer Breakfast

The City hosted its annual All City Volunteer Breakfast Saturday, April 22 at the Knights of Columbus. Mayor Winstead provided a welcome and thanked volunteers for their service and commitment to Bloomington. There were 207 volunteers in attendance, 122 of which were volunteers from Human Services.
