Changes to Archaeology Report Submittals for SHPO Review

The Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) has partnered with the Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA) in the redevelopment of their online Portal. Going forward, archaeology survey reports will be submitted and accessed via the OSA Portal. SHPO requires that all archaeology survey reports submitted to the SHPO be submitted by the archaeologist through the OSA Portal. This change is effective immediately.

Please include the full archaeology report title, author, and report date in any project submittals so that SHPO staff can easily find the report in the OSA Portal for review.

We have released new guidance on our website for submittal preparers: https://mn.gov/admin/shpo/environmental-review/submit/

We have also released new guidance on our website for archaeologists to submit reports through the OSA Portal:  https://mn.gov/admin/shpo/surveyandinventory/manual/

Please reach out to DataRequestSHPO@state.mn.us if you have any questions about SHPO data and procedures related to the new OSA Portal.

Note: Very few of SHPO’s approximately 10,000 archaeology reports are in the OSA Portal. Please continue to follow the research guidance on SHPO’s website to obtain copies of those reports.
