West Bloomfield Parks
and Recreation Receives Multiple Awards from State Recreation Association at
Annual Conference
Awards
include Park Resource Leadership, Innovative Programming, Innovative Park
Resource and Best Single Brochure
WEST BLOOMFIELD, February 17, 2015 — The West Bloomfield Parks and
Recreation Commission (WBPRC) was honored with four awards at the Michigan
Recreation and Park Association’s (MRPA) annual conference and trade show held
in Lansing on February 10-13. The WBPRC
received more awards than any other municipality in the State.
Joe Ketchum, park
superintendent, received the prestigious, individual award for park resource
leadership. According to MRPA,
“Recipients of the Park Resource Leadership Award exhibit outstanding contributions
in the areas of environmental stewardship, maintenance practice, equipment
management and resource development.”
Ketchum has dedicated 23 years of service to the organization and has
played a major role in all park improvement initiatives since his hire.
The WBPRC also received three
organization-wide awards. It won the
Innovative Program Award for launching the first bubble soccer league in the
State. The Innovative Park Resource
Award was given for the creation of a state-of-the-art, multi-faceted, de-icing
system. The organization also received a
marketing award for Best Single Brochure for the 2014 Spring/Summer Pathways.
“2014 was an outstanding year
for West Bloomfield on so many fronts,” said Jennifer Tucker, executive
director for the West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commission. “It’s great
to be recognized as a leader in the field and we will continue to challenge
ourselves to offer exceptional programs and enhance public parkland in 2015. None of these awards would have happened if
we didn't have the support of residents in the community.”
