West Bloomfield's "Family Aquatic Center" property to be redesigned in 2018
The West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commission is seeking public input on desired park amenities.
WEST BLOOMFIELD, June 26, 2017 — The West
Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commission (WBPRC) will be completely
redesigning its Family Aquatic Center property. This is the result of decaying
infrastructure, unsustainable maintenance costs and evolving community needs. Indoor
and outdoor pool use will be uninterrupted for the summer 2017 season. The
facility will close this fall in preparation for construction.
Initial
plans for the property include a spray park with various water features as well
as a playground. The new property will be ready for public use by the summer of
2019. Landscape architects, Johnson Hill Land Ethics Studio, have been
contracted to redesign the five acre property.
“The
maintenance costs associated with sustaining aging indoor and outdoor pools is
just not what’s in the best interest for our residents nor consistent with the
Commission’s long term goals for the park system,” said Jennifer Tucker,
executive director for the WBPRC. “We are looking forward to the challenge of
redesigning the property while working with our community partners and
residents along the way.”
The WBPRC
will be seeking public input in the early phases of the design process starting
with an online survey available at wbparks.org/parkimprovements. A public
meeting will be held at the Recreation Activities Center (4640 Walnut Lake Road,
West Bloomfield, MI 48323) on July 17, 2017 from 7:00-8:00 pm to receive input
and review the survey results publicly.
