The Michigan Veterans Employment Services staff meets in Troy for annual training conference

VES Staff

This amazing group of veterans are Michigan's Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialists. They work in Michigan Works! offices all around the state, providing intensive and individualized employment services to eligible veterans and spouses assisting them with overcoming significant barriers to employment.

This photo was taken at their annual training conference earlier this week. This conference is an opportunity to network with peers, share experiences, learn best practices and collaborate strategies to more effectively serve our veterans.

Toys for Tots - still time to give some extra hope this Christmas.

Toys for Tots

It's not too late to help a 'little' someone have a great Christmas this year. Select your city or zip code and you will be redirected to the Toys For Tots campaign in your area with specific instructions on how to donate locally.

Remember getting toys for Christmas? Can you imagine how devastating it would have been to receive nothing while all your friends received a new toy? Maybe you recall when a neighbor received nothing at Christmas because his or her family was experiencing hard times. It is painful to think about the impact a Christmas without a toy can have on a child and how adversely it can impact his or her self-esteem and future. Some never recover and ultimately never realize their potential.

Toys for Tots exists to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.

If you haven't already done so, take a minute to make a donation and change a life!

MVAA certified flag indicates 'Veteran-Friendly Employer' in MiTalent job search

MVAA Veteran Friendly Flag

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) has worked tirelessly to create standards for companies to become certified Veteran-Friendly Employers. MVAA recognizes employers that commit to military veteran recruitment, training and retention practices by awarding those employers Gold, Silver and Bronze level status as Veteran-Friendly Employers. MVAA’s Veteran-Friendly Employers program helps qualified organizations recruit and retain top veteran talent while providing others a road map to improve their recruitment efforts.

Employers can now attain this special certification with the MVAA in Pure Michigan Talent Connect. A new MVAA certified flag for certified employers will appear next to all job postings by MVAA recognized, Veteran-Friendly Employers.

What does this mean for you? As a veteran and job seeker, this flag indicator quickly assures you that this employer understands what you bring to the job and organization. This employer values your integrity, self-direction, diversity, leadership skills, and specialized advanced training. They can relate to your experience and skills and see how they align with their mission and goals. Now you can easily see who these employers are and apply for vacancies posted by MVAA Certified Veteran-Friendly Employers.
