A monthly update on the status and impact of the Michigan Department of State's work to modernize customer service operations

“Most efficient government office I've ever been to. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes (with an appointment).”

Operational Updates:
- The economic impacts of the pandemic had left the Michigan Department of State with more than 75 vacant counter positions. Now there are less than 30.
- The effective hiring is one of the reasons all visitors are now in and out of our offices in 20 minutes or less. It’s also enabled us to launch the mobile office in Southeast Michigan, and the two additional mobile offices slated to start operating in Central and West Michigan later this summer.
- When many pandemic restrictions were lifted in June 2021, the department began working hard to fill vacant positions at our offices. The work paid off, and we were able to outpace retirements and typical turnover and successfully make dozens of hires at a time when every sector struggled to find staff.
