INTRODUCTION TO WOOD CARVING


Join Gerry Bouchard as he offers a Introductory Course on Wood Carving. This is a 3 part series. Part 1 is 4 Zoom meetings. Each Zoom class is 30 minute of instruction and 1 hour carving time. Check out Senior Break for interview with Gerry and to learn more.

  • Overview of Various Wood Carving Tools

$22.00 Amazon book or $10.00 Kindle version- The Complete Book of Wood Carving by Everett Ellenwood. Book will be used in all 3 part series.

$20.00 Carving Knife (Flexcut detail knife preferred).


THE GRAND EXPERIENCE

Oxford Township Parks & Recreation is offering a unique opportunity to travel to Mackinac Island in grand style! Fireside Chat

Hear the Bailey family story come to life

Join us on Zoom as Oakland County Parks and Recreation Historian Carol Bacak-Egbo discusses the fascinating history of Independence Oaks County Park during the program Fireside Chat – Ten Sons and a Front Yard Burial: The Story of the Bailey Homestead at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 12.

Learn more about one of the first families to settle in the area, the Bailey family, their property and their legacy during this free virtual event.

This program is limited to 300 participants on Zoom. The chat will be moderated by Oakland County Parks and Recreation staff. Those interested can click on the Zoom link in the Fireside Chat flyer to join the fun.

This event is the first in a series of four Fireside Chats scheduled this winter and spring.

Virtual Thursdays at the Museum is back after a brief holiday hiatus. This week DIA studio instructors will share highlights from the 12th Annual Community Group Art exhibition that features works of art created through a partnership between the museum and seven human service agencies in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Art therapist and Mariners Inn art program coordinator Karianne Spens-Hanna artist will then lead participants through an art-based mindfulness exercise. Learn More!

FREE ONLINE CLASSES


Michiganders can now enjoy over 150 FREE online group classes designed for and led by older adults. Offerings include classes on how to use a smartphone or tablet, how to use video conferencing like Zoom, grocery delivery, as well as virtual social hours, which have all become more necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic. This grant is supported by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, and in partnership with GetSetUp.

These classes are designed to keep your mind active, allow you to engage with others, in-crease your ability to live independently and learn new things. And most importantly, have fun!
