Ottawa County Parks Foundation - February Newsletter

In honor of Valentine's Day we have an update on a love story from last year

Love at Grand Ravines

Julie and Steve

Grand Ravines is a very special place for Julie and Steve, because they had so many great times there together with the dogs-- running, taking pictures, playing in the mud, and exploring the trails. In fact, it was so special that the first time they visited the park they told each other that was where they wanted to get married. Unfortunately, there wedding date was booked, so they ended up changing the date in order to get married there.

Julie and I looked at a few different venues when we were planning our wedding, but we always came back to Grand Ravines as being the place that meant the most to us and where we always talked about getting married. The lodge, the view, the atmosphere, the numerous spots for pictures...everything was perfect! We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding and start to our life together!

Live music. Cash Bar. Light snacks. A $10 donation is suggested at the door and 10% of all art sold to benefit the Ottawa County Parks Foundation.

May 16 at 7 PM, Hemlock Crossing County Park - Veterans of the Ottawa County Poor Farm - From Old Soldiers Homes that cared for Civil War veterans to the V.A. today, Americans have recognized the responsibility to provide haven for our nation’s wounded and aging warriors. But, not all in need found their way to those facilities. It seems oddly shameful and compassionate that a few, who ranged in service to the War of 1812 to World War II, both men and women, would end up at the Ottawa County Poor Farm. This is their story, one of patriotism, sacrifice, and remembrance. RSVP Today! This event is free, though donations are appreciated.
