Former Ottawa County Judge Edward Post will return to handing down verdicts, though not from behind the courtroom bench. His new role will be as “juror” in a brand new art competition coming to the lakeshore. Ottawa County and the Holland Area Arts Council are joining forces to establish the Ottawa County Art Trust Exhibition.

Together, the partners invite local artists to enter their Ottawa County themed works in a juried exhibition located in the County’s Administration Building. Former Ottawa County Judge and Professional Photographer Edward Post will serve as juror. Up to three works will be selected from the exhibition and be purchased to become part of the permanent art collection of the new Ottawa County Art Trust. Individuals and businesses can also purchase art from the exhibition to donate to the Art Trust in honor of others. Ottawa leaders plan to hold the exhibition annually at varied locations to grow the County’s fine art collection. The Ottawa County Art Trust will build a permanent library of artwork created by resident artists. As the collection grows, the works will be on display in various county locations.

“Establishing an art trust tangibly demonstrates the importance of creativity and culture to Ottawa County while preserving a legacy of assets for generations to come,” said Al Vanderberg, Ottawa County Administrator.

Artists must be 18 years of age or older and reside or own property in Ottawa County. The complete prospectus including entry deadlines, fees and more is online at miOttawa.org/ArtTrust or HollandArts.org.

The exhibit will open to the public for viewing in late June. Watch for details this summer.
