zika & pregnancy

Do you know any pregnant women

(or women who may want to become pregnant) traveling to areas with risk of Zika (such as Texas, Mexico, Caribbean, Central/South America, or parts of Africa and Asia)? Map of Zika risk areas.

Zika infection can cause birth defects

The Zika virus can be passed from a pregnant woman to her fetus. Infection during pregnancy can cause a birth defect called microcephaly and other severe fetal brain defects.

The mosquitos that carry the Zika virus are not in Michigan, but travelers to these regions can get the virus and can pass it through sex without a condom (even if that person does not show symptoms of Zika).

Could you help us raise awareness about how to prevent Zika infections?

Do you know any businesses, churches – mission trips, travel agencies, study abroad programs, friends, family or other organizations who could help us reach pregnant women (or women who may want to become pregnant) traveling to areas with risk of Zika?

If so, which FREE materials would you like?

microcephaly
zika kits

For questions or to request other free materials not available at www.cdc.gov/zika, contact Kristina Wieghmink at kwieghmink@miottawa.org or 616-494-5597.
