“Many children in lower-income households go hungry during their summer break; most often when they no longer have access to school lunches. Meet Up and Eat Up is coordinated by community partners to help ensure children have enough to eat,” said Amy Sheele, health educator with the Ottawa County Department of Public Health.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a Child Nutrition Program that uses meal patterns similar to those used in other federal child nutrition programs. The SFSP is operated at the local level by program sponsors and is administered in Michigan by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Office of School Support Services. To receive meals at a Meet Up and Eat Up site, participants must be 18 years of age or younger or disabled, regardless of age. An individual is determined to be mentally or physically disabled by the MDE or a local public educational agency (school district or public school academy).
