Small Steps Automatic Increase Campaign

Michigan Office of Retirement Services - Message for Public School Employers

August 30, 2017

In an effort to encourage employees to save more for retirement, we will launch the annual Small Steps campaign at the end of this year. Active employees in the Pension Plus Plan, the Defined Contribution (DC) Plan (those first hired on or after September 4, 2012), and those who have Personal Healthcare Fund (PHF) not contributing at least 10 percent to the State of Michigan 457 Plan will receive communications from Voya Financial® regarding their contribution rate. Contribution rates will be increased by 1 percent with the first available pay in January 2018.

  • Eligible employees will receive a mailer in November with information and how to use the online tool to opt out of the Small Steps campaign increase.
  • This campaign will not affect Defined Benefit (DB) members, MIP DC Converted, or Basic DC Converted with Premium Subsidy healthcare.

Employees who do not opt out of the Small Steps campaign will be included on the DC Feedback file you receive in early January, along with employees who make regular contribution changes. Please begin to use the new contribution percent amount for the pay period listed in the Effective Report End Date column on the View DC Feedback screen.

If you have employees with questions related to the campaign, have them contact Voya’s Plan Information line at 800-748-6128.
