historic train depot

*Restore the Historic Holly Union Train Depot*

If you love our Historic Train Depot and want to see it preserved, restored, and usable again...raise your hand! We recently had an excellent meeting with local leaders and representatives from both CSX and CN Railways. There's a project in the works...

A little history: In past years, a wonderful group of determined Holly area residents, leaders, and business owners set forth to preserve the building where it sat. The Holly Union Depot was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in December of 2000. In recent years, both railroad companies experienced concerns regarding safety and deemed the Depot to be inaccessible where it is currently located due to its proximity to two active freight lines. Discussion arose recently about what to do with the building and it was suggested that it could be picked up and MOVED - relocated further down the tracks, in the grassy space across from the Holly Hotel, Andy's Place, and the Holly Moose Lodge. "Old buildings like this one get moved all the time", they said.

We invited the railway representatives to tour the building and property with us and we discussed our intentions with them over lunch. We are happy to report that both railway reps as well as our Main Street Oakland County planners support our vision for the future of the Depot and its new location. And they are willing to help us move this project forward. Exciting news!

It's going to take time, plenty of grant money, fundraising efforts, and a lot of community support - but things are heading in the right direction to turn this idea into a reality! We'll keep you in the loop about the project's progress through regular updates on this Facebook page. Please share this page with your friends, neighbors, Holly alumni, train enthusiasts, and anyone else you think might be interested in this project.  Also, stay informed and up to date on depot news by giving our new Facebook page a 'like", named Restore the Historic Holly Union Depot.
