Update on Oakland County Animal Control Dog License Census

THE OAKLAND COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL DIVISION IS CONDUCTING ITS ANNUAL DOG CENSUS WITHIN ITS SERVICE AREA TO INCLUDE TROY.

 THIS NOTICE IS TO INFORM YOU THAT MICHIGAN STATE LAW* PROVIDES: IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO OWN ANY DOG FOUR MONTHS OR OVER, UNLESS THE DOG IS LICENSED, OR TO OWN ANY DOG FOUR MONTHS OR OVER THAT DOES NOT AT ALL TIMES WEAR A COLLAR WITH A TAG APPROVED BY THE DIRECTOR OF AGRICULTURE.

 CONSISTENT WITH THE ABOVE LAW, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A DOG LICENSE. PLEASE DISREGARD THIS NOTICE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED YOUR DOG LICENSE. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET PURCHASED A LICENSE AND YOUR DOG IS FOUR MONTHS OR OLDER, PLEASE DO SO IMMEDIATELY.

Response from City of Troy and additional information for Troy residents:

 

  • ·         Oakland County is conducting the census and are not under the direction of the City of Troy
  • ·         Oakland County Animal Control census workers are exempt from the “Do Not Knock” registry and ordinance
  • ·         Census workers will issue unlicensed dog owners a reminder notice. If that notice is ignored a postcard will be mailed to them from OCAC. If the 2nd notice is ignored the owner will be issued a citation from an OCAC Deputy
  • ·         Residents of Troy can purchase one-year and three-year dog licenses from Troy Police Records Section which is now open Monday thru Friday to the public (previously open only Monday thru Thursday). Hours: M-F 8:00AM-4:30PM

  • Late fees will be charged for dog licenses
