City of Troy Activates Cooling Center for Saturday, June 30 to Sunday, July 1

 

 

Troy, MI – The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting elevated temperatures for Southeast Michigan from today through Sunday, July 1.

Temperatures may reach the low to mid 90s during this time period. Heat indexes from 95-105. Hot temperatures over the course of several days will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible especially for older adults, children, people who are sick as well as pets. Please check on neighbors, family members, and friends.

The Troy Community Center is located at 3179 Livernois Rd, Troy MI 48083 and will act as a cooling center due to the high temperatures. Hours of operation are listed below. Residents accessing this sites are encouraged to bring their own books, puzzles, or games to pass the time. For alternates to public cooling centers, consider visiting a library, movie theater, congregation, or shopping mall.

 

Hours of Operation:

Friday 5am-10pm

Saturday 7am-8pm

Sunday 8am-6pm

 

The public is urged to take measures to stay healthy and safe during extreme temperatures. Call 9-1-1 immediately if you or someone you know is having a medical emergency or showing signs of a heat stroke. Symptoms include:

  • Extremely high body temperature 103°+
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Red, hot, dry skin (with no sweating)
  • Rapid, strong pulse
  • Throbbing headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Mental Confusion
  • Delirium
  • Hallucinations
  • Chills
  • Unconsciousness
