 Calling All Artists!

Calling all artists

The City of Royal Oak Commission for the Arts is now accepting applications for public art to be displayed in Downtown Royal Oak from July 2014 through April 2015. For details of the program including information about submitting your work for consideration, the application form is available here.  

 

 

Royal Oak Introduces Pothole Repair Tracking Map 

The Department of Public Service (DPS) has created a map that allows residents to view the progress of the city’s efforts to repair potholes. Read more>>

Special Earth Day Event 

Beaumont and the ROPD are collaborating on collecting for a special Earth Day Event. Drop off unused or expired medications, mercury thermometers, and sharps on Tuesday, April 22, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. We have to get these darn drugs out of the medicine cabinets and off the streets! Historical Exhibit on Display Now through April 2014 

For the first time ever the Michigan Vietnam Wall is on display at the Royal Oak Historical Society Museum (1411 West Webster) as part of the Salute to Korean War and Vietnam Veterans. Photos on loan by are veterans and their families will feature military life and the lives of the Korean and Vietnamese people as well as military uniforms, paraphernalia and documents. Memorials to local Missing In Action (MIA) soldiers will be featured along with memorial to Michigan military personnel on loan from the Frankenmuth Military and Space Museum. The exhibit, which opened on Veterans’ Day, is open 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Save the Date: Ladies Night Out is May 8 

Dozens of restaurants, stores and salons will participate in Ladies Night Out in Downtown Royal Oak. The event, which is sponsored by the Royal Oak Association of Retailers and the Royal Oak Restaurant Association, offers gal pals a one night escape to enjoy food, drinks, fun and prizes - and huge savings, too!  The event runs from 6-10 p.m. on May 8. 

 

 

Infographic/Poster Contest for High School Students 

In honor of National Public Health Week and Alcohol Awareness Month, Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) is hosting an infographic/poster contest and inviting high school students to creatively convey the consequences and impacts of binge drinking on youth and teens. Students have a chance to win a $100, $50 or $25 iTunes gift card and will receive community service hours. Click here for contest rules. 

 

 

Wine Stroll Benefits Boys & Girls Club 

Tickets are on sale now for the 10th annual Wine Stroll in Downtown Royal Oak. Participating restaurants and retailers will offer wine samples and signature hors d’oeuvres for strollers from noon – 5 p.m. on May 17. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Oakland County. Read more>> 

 

 

Second Stage presents “title of show” 

At first glance the name of the show appears somewhat awkward, but once the comedic content is presented, the title reveals itself as absolutely appropriate. The contemporary musical comedy [title of show] runs April 25 – May 4 on the Second Stage at the Baldwin Theatre, 415 S. Lafayette in downtown Royal Oak.  Call 248-541-6430 for tickets.
