Home Invasion
On Thursday, July 4, 2013, at 3:00 a.m., Royal Oak Officers responded to a Home Invasion in the 1000 block of Iroquois.
The resident returned home from work and heard someone walking in the upstairs area of his home. He exited the home, went across the street and called the police department.
As the first two officers on the scene began taking up positions to secure the exterior of the residence, the suspect came out the front door. When he was confronted by an officer, he fled the area on foot.
The Royal Oak officers set up a perimeter around the suspects last known location and requested a K-9 Officer respond to the scene. Madison Heights K-9 Officer Louis arrived and began tracking the suspect. The suspect was not located.
The Royal Oak officers’ recovered property stolen from the residence and a handgun stolen from a vehicle the previous day in Rochester Hills.
Further investigation revealed the same subject may be responsible for one (1) other Home Invasion and a breaking and entering of a detached garage in the 1000 block of Iroquois.
The suspect is described as a white male, medium build, 5’8” – 6’0”, 175lbs, 20-25 years-old with dark hair. The suspect was wearing a baseball hat, gray t-shirt, blue jean shorts and white athletic shoes.

Update
On Wednesday July 10, 2013, the Troy Police Department arrested an individual that matched the suspect description who committed the Home Invasion on the 1000 block of Iroquois in the City of Royal Oak.
Royal Oak Detectives interviewed the suspect who was identified as Zachary Michael Deming. Deming confessed to breaking into two (2) houses in the 1000 block of Iroquois and an unattached garage of another residence on the same block.
Deming was charged with a total of seven (7) felony counts for the crimes committed in the City of Royal Oak as follows:
- Two (2) counts of Home Invasion First Degree, with penalty of 20 years and/or $5,000
- Two (2) counts of Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, with penalty of 2 years consecutively with and preceding any term of imprisonment imposed for the felony or attempted felony conviction.
- Breaking and Entering a Building with Intent, with penalty of 10 years
- Receiving and Concealing a Firearm, with penalty of 10 years and/or $5,000
- Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, with penalty of 2 years and/or $2,000.
On July 12, 2013, Zachary Deming was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Brennan of the 44th District Court with a Cash Surety Bond set at $500,000.00 no 10%. The Preliminary Exam is set for July 19, 2013 at 09:00 a.m.
