More than 100 students from eight public, private and charter high schools got an immersive look at county operations during the Board’s Youth in Government Day on Feb. 6. The event enlightened and engaged students through Q & A sessions with county elected officials and representatives, including Commissioners Erickson Gault, Smiley, Smith Charles, and Taylor; and dynamic presentations from the legislative branch. A mock debate and vote on K-12 cell phone restriction legislation currently awaiting the governor’s signature demonstrated the students’ willingness to consider opposing viewpoints. For more on the day’s sessions, read the latest Oakland County Blog.
