At its meeting on September 18, the Board unanimously adopted the triennial county budget for fiscal years (FY) 2026-2028. Following an extensive budget review process, the budget for FY 2026 will:
- Enable the Oakland County Housing Trust Fund to assist in the construction of affordable housing units
- Support the Clerk/Register of Deeds’ digitization of vital records
- Allow the Health Division to increase beach water quality monitoring across the county
- Create new positions, including a Veterans Benefits Counselor and Oakland Connects Housing Coordinator

Commissioners recognize community members, organizations and businesses with proclamations and certificates in honor of special milestones, contributions or achievements. See the list below for recognitions from last month.
- A Cold Stone Creamery opened in Clarkston – presented by Commissioner Joliat, Sept. 4.
- Longtime Community Affairs Director Cindy Stewart retired from Troy – presented by Commissioners Luebs and Erickson Gault, Sept. 10.
- Global engineering solutions company voitas North America opened a Southfield office – presented by Commissioners Smith Charles and Taylor, Sept. 10.
- Clarkston-based med spa Rosewater Aesthetics hosted a grand opening – presented by Commissioner Joliat, Sept. 17.
- The annual observance of Patriot Week was celebrated – presented by Commissioners Hoffman, Spisz and Taylor with unanimous support, Sept. 17.
- The many contributions made by members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community were recognized as part of Deaf Awareness Month – presented by Commissioner Powell with unanimous support, Sept. 18.
- The dedication and lifetime achievements of former Michigan governor James Blanchard were honored – presented by Chair Woodward, Sept. 23.
- Antique mall Rusty Relics reopened in the Whoopee Bowl – presented by Commissioner Hoffman, Sept. 24.
- Volunteer organization Clarkston Area Optimist Club was recognized for 40 years of community service – presented by Commissioner Joliat, Sept. 25.
- Welcoming Week, which encourages a welcoming and inclusive society, was observed in the county – presented by Commissioner Miller, Sept. 25.
- New sandwich shop More Than Subs hosted a grand opening in Holly – presented by Commissioner Hoffman, Sept. 26.

Like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business organization and network, local chambers in Oakland County are made up of small businesses, start-ups, large corporations and everything in between. There are 22 chambers of commerce in Oakland County, serving the businesses in our 62 cities, villages and townships. The 3rd Wednesday in October is National Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day, so keep an eye out for more on the work they do to support and strengthen businesses, economies and communities this month.

There’s a lot happening in Oakland County! Check out the latest news and upcoming events:
- This month, Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) will become part of Oakland County Parks. The two organizations will collaborate to bring new, innovative education and programs to the county. Read more at bit.ly/OCPWelcomesMSUE.
- Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash joined city leaders in Pontiac to announce the completion of the Norton Street Innovation Stormwater Improvement Project. This new green infrastructure along Norton Street features native plants, trees and a landscaped creek area to help manage up to 900,000 gallons of stormwater while enhancing the community. - The Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds has announced expanded service hours for appointments at its satellite office in Troy. Learn more about the services available at the satellite office at bit.ly/OCClerkTroyOffice.
- Oakland County recently celebrated the official opening of the Oakland 360 Care Center in Pontiac. The facility, designed to expand access to integrated health services, was developed in partnership with several local organizations. It provides behavioral health support, wrap-around resources and primary health care regardless of a person’s ability to pay.
