Several commissioners recently attended the multi-day NACo conference, engaging in sessions led by peers and experts from around the country on issues impacting local government. This year, the Board was recognized with a NACo Achievement Award for the School Mental Health Grant Initiative and was highlighted for its Student Debt Relief Initiative in partnership with Savi. Adding to Oakland County’s achievements at the conference, Commissioner Linnie Taylor was elected secretary of the Women of NACo Leadership Network. Check out this recap on Facebook.
At the July 17 Board meeting, Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter presented the proposed triennial county budget for fiscal years 2026-2028. The recommended budget focuses on investments in public health, safety, housing, and the county workforce. On August 5, county department leaders will begin presentations to the Board’s Finance Committee regarding their respective portions of the budget proposal, and the full Board will vote on the budget and any amendments at its September 18 meeting. Read more about the proposed budget at OakGov.com, view the budget hearing schedule at OakGov.com/BOC and watch the upcoming Finance meetings, which are open to the public, on the Board’s YouTube channel.
Throughout the month of July, the Board welcomed a summer intern to the staff. From attending committee meetings and working on communications projects to shadowing commissioners, our intern, Aria, got a firsthand look at the inner workings of local government. Her time with the Board offered a unique opportunity to experience how policies are shaped, budgets are reviewed and community initiatives are developed — all while supporting the residents of Oakland County.
